From countless make-up applications and consultations I can honestly say that the product people are most weary of using is eye liner. They say it is messy, hard to use and that they are just unable to make a straight line. Use eye liner to make your eyes appear larger or really stand out and “pop” but be careful. Too much of a good thing can look over done and messy. Use a light hand or touch and sometimes pulling the skin of your upper eye lid taut helps. Start from the outside corner of the eye and work your way in. Obviously using a mirror helps and so does a steady hand.
Patience and practice makes perfect. I use four different types of liner depending on the look I want but my favorite is cream or powder that can be used wet. Cream and powders (you can even use darker eye shadow wet) are applied with a brush making short wispy lines. Always remember that eye liner is an extension of the lashes and MUST be applied as close as possible to the lashline. Another way to line the eyes is with a pencil. It’s the same idea, short little lines that all meet instead of trying to create one long line. Keep eye pencils sharpened for smoothest application. You can also soften the line by smudging it using your finger or a make-up sponge. The most difficult and messy of all the applications is liquid. Just take your time and again, short little strokes and use the side of the applicator not the point. Pick a color, any color, and keep playing until you are a pro and trust me it will happen. It is not as intimidating as it seems, just give it a try.
For eyeliner the best results come from the best tools. Invest in a set of good brushes. Trust me on this one. Besides, using new tools is a good incentive to learn and get back the return on that investment. One compliment on your new look is all it takes to feel good.
